The 2013 Home Run Derby is about to take off. Join us for our live blog of the event as eight of the top sluggers in baseball take the batter's box as only one will be crowned the king of home runs. We bring you the round-by-round results with totals and ultimately, the winner.

This year is a bit different than previous derbies. Five of the eight participants are all first timers. David Wright, Robinson Cano and Prince Fielder are the only guys who have been in the Home Run Derby before. Cano and Fielder have won it in back-to-back seasons. Cano won in 2011, while Fielder comes in as the defending champion.

First Timers
Michael Cuddyer might be new to the official Home Run Derby, but he has participated in other home run competitions and won. Wright and Cuddyer grew up around the same area and the 34-year-old won it all. Chris Davis is the 2013 home run leader so far in the season. He has hit 37 home runs so far in the year and will look to break records if he continues hitting balls over the wall at this pace. Yoenis Cespedes is strong and that gives him some advantage in this tournament. He's hit 15 home runs in 2013. Pedro Alvarez is one of the streakiest guys in baseball. After a slow start in 2013, Alvarez hit 10 home runs alone in the month of June. Bryce Harper is a sweet-swinger youngster who can hit for power. He's only hit 13 home runs, but watch out for the 20-year-old as he can turn it up and perform when it matters most.

The good news for Cano, Fielder, Davis, Alvarez and Harper is that a lefty has won the competition seven of the last eight years. Wright, Cuddyer and Cespedes can be the first right handers to win the derby since Vladimir Guerrero took home the trophy in 2007.

Fielder, Cano, Davis and Cespedes have a great chance of winning since five of the last six winners have come from the American League. Fielder was the last National League player to win it as he accomplished this task while wearing a Milwaukee Brewers' jersey.
