Mariano Rivera Blows Save For New York Yankees Against Mets In Subway Series As Closer Records Rare Loss, Rivalry Shifts To Bronx On Wednesday

The New York Yankees lost 2-1 to the New York Mets on Tuesday night after a rare blown save and now the Mets have won the first two games of the Subway Series as the rivalry heads to Yankee Stadium for two more games on Wednesday.

Rivera was honored before the game by the team and then ended up giving them a gift later, as he came into the game with a 1-0 lead and couldn't hang on, allowing the Mets to rally from behind for a rare victory in their awful season with their barely major league roster. David Wright came through for the Mets and Lucas Duda had the game-winning hit, spoiling an excellent start from pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, who dueled against Matt Harvey.

The Yankees went up when Lyle Overbay had an RBI single and the team looked like it had the win in hand when Rivera came in. It also marked the first time he came into a game for a save and did not record an out over his 19 year career. That has only happened to him a number of times when not in that situation and the Mets took advantage.

"I think we surprised ourselves," Wright said, "because when you get Mo coming in, it's usually game over."

Mets manager Terry Collins was thrown out and the game was delayed due to the weather at one point. Young star Matt Harvey was excellent on the mound, striking out 10 and walking none.
