The San Antonio Spurs were down, but they were not out, as the team made a furious comeback against the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 to take a 1-0 series lead after winning 129-127 in double overtime on Monday night.
Stpehen Curry was fantastic while scoring 44 points for the Warriors, but that wasn't enough to win the game as Manu Ginobili hit a 3-pointer with less than two seconds left to put the Spurs up at the end of the second overtime. The Spurs made a furious comeback by 16 points down in the fourth quarter with less than five minutes left and finished on an 18-2 run to push the game into extra time.
The Spurs were down two with less than four seconds left when Ginobili received the cross court pass for a wide open three and hit the shot. Ginobili had previously tossed up an errant shot and may have lost the game for the Spurs, but instead he took his chance and made it. Jarrett Jack was great at the end for the Warriors while bringing the game back tied earlier, but he missed his final three and the game was over.
Ginobili was stunned afterwards that his team won and point guard Tony Parker was excellent as well, adding 28 points, while Danny Green had 22, including a huge shot in overtime. The team dealt with having a sick Tim Duncan and the wild rally propelled the team to the overtime victory. Curry added 11 assists and had an amazing shooting performance, but it wasn't enough to take down the Spurs.
Andrew Bogut did his part with 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Klay Thompson added 19 before fouling out. Curry had 22 in the third quarter alone and after Leonard was able to hold him back in the fourth, the Spurs made a comeback. He scored 14 starlight points in the third and pushed Golden State to an 18 points lead towards the end of the quarter.
The Spurs went up in the second overtime before the Warriors retook the lead with six straight points, but after settling down the team was able to put up the winning shot. The Spurs started off slow from three, but changed things up later and ended up on top.
