The New York Yankees have been playing some solid baseball all season, but the team ran into trouble on Sunday with the Oakland Athletics, as the team gave up a run in eighth inning to lose with Boone Logan and saw Grant Balfour close out the game in Yankee Stadium as the team heads to Colorado for interleague play.

Yoenis Cespedes had a home run in the game and Josh Donaldson added the solo shot in the eighth inning to put the team ahead, while Andy Pettitte was left with a no decision after his shaky start. The Yankees had a chance in the bottom of the ninth off of Balfour, but after walking Robinson Cano following a wild pitch, he got out Vernon Wells to end the game. The Yankees are 18-12 this season and playing much better than many expected, as injuries to a number of players forced names like Lyle Overbay, Jayson Nix and Travis Hafner to take over.

The Mariners snapped a winning streak and lost to the Toronto Blue Jays on the road after a strong start from former Mariner Brandon Morrow, who got the win to end a four game losing streak for the team 10-2. The Mariners mustered up just three hits after exploding on RA Dickey the previous day and dropped the final game of the series after winning the first two, including one start by Felix Hernandez, who pitched a shutout of eight innings on Friday. Joe Saunders got the loss as his road woes continue.

The Cardinals blasted their way past the Brewers for their first four game sweep and had 11 hits on the day while Matt Holliday added a home run and Jaime Garcia got the win to improve to 4-1. The Cardinals improved their record to 2011 and the team has been excellent on the road, going 13-6 this season. The Twins defeated the Indians 4-2 behind a game from Mike Pelfrey while Glen Perkins got the save for Minnesota, who improved to 13-14 with the win, while the Indians are now 14-14. Trevor Plouffe and Carlos Santana homered in the game.

The Cubs lost 7-4 to the Reds and were swept after a solid game by Joey Votto, while Mat Latos improved to 3-0 with the victory. The Red Sox were swept by the Rangers after losing 4-3 on Sunday, while the Marlins had an offensive explosion on the Phillies in their 14-2 win.
