Darelle Revis Trade Rumors To Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hang On First Round Draft Pick, Team Prepared To Sign Cornerback To Large Contract

Mar 14, 2013 08:31 AM EDT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have emerged as the main trade target for the Jets with cornerback Darrelle Revis, but according to Yahoo Sports, the deal is being delayed by the reluctance of the Bucs to give up their first round pick for 2013.

According to the report, team sources said that the Jets want the number 13 overall pick from the Buccaneers in any trade for Revis and currently the team is unsure if they want to accept a deal without it. The report says that the Buccaneers are prepared to pay Revis and trade for him, it just depends on what the Jets are willing to accept.

The team may be more willing to give up next year's pick and the Buccaneers have shown that they have no problems spending money, as they have the cap space and also recently signed Dashon Goldson to a reported five-year, $41.25 million deal.

The Seahawks just gave up first- and seventh-round picks this year and a third-round pick in 2014 for Percy Harvin, but the Buccaneers do not want to give up that many picks. The Jets have said they do not want to pay Revis as much as he is asking and the team could benefit from waiting a year and getting a first round pick, as next year's draft is deeper at the quarterback position with possibly Johnny Manziel coming out.

The Buccaneers are in need of a cornerback after trading Aqib Talib and getting a disappointing season from Eric Wright, who signed a big contract last year and failed a drug test while also dealing with other issues. The team isn't worried about signing contracts, as they paid Vincent Jackson last year, and they feel Revis can be a game changer.
