Arsenal Transfer News: Gotze or Reus, Which Player Should the Gunners Buy in the Summer?

Arsenal are expected to bring about a major overhaul to their squad in the summer, with some big-money signings reportedly on their way to the Emirates.

One of those names high on Arsene Wenger's list is Mario Gotze of Borussia Dortmund, while a certain teammate of his who has been in brilliant form this season - Marco Reus - has also been linked.

While the Twitter rumors of that now famous £30 million ($46 million) bid in January might have died down, it did bring about a lot of questions - there have also been rumors that the bid was made for a buy in the summer, which brought out several more intriguing possibilities.

Who would it be best to spend that amount of money, unheard of at Arsenal before, on?

Edinson Cavani, many of the fans' choice to replace Robin Van Persie, certainly will not be available for that amount - it will take at least another £10-15 million ($15-23 million) or so to tempt Napoli to sell their star striker.

So, the name that naturally pointed it all to was that of Gotze, who reportedly has a £30 million ($46 million) release clause in his contract.

Gotze will be an absolutely brilliant buy for Arsenal, there is no doubt about that. A playmaking team with Gotze, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, with Mikel Arteta as the pivot will be enough to send any team reeling.

At 20-years-old, he is also the perfect Wenger buy, even if the transfer fee might not be.

However, another player that the £30 million could be for is Reus or "Rolls Reus" as he is known in Germany. The forward has been in inspired form off late for Dortmund and has been easily their best player.

Gotze and Reus have struck up a highly successful partnership, with Robert Lewandowski the benefactor more often than not of their creative abilities.

Arsenal need a shakeup like never seen before in the summer; there is absolutely no doubt about that, and indeed if that £70 million ($108 million) warchest turns out to be true, a start with one of the two Dortmund players will be a sound one.

Time is nigh for the likes of Gervinho, Nicklas Bendtner, Andre Santos, Johan Djourou, Marouane Chamakh, Andrey Arshavin, whose contract expires in the summer, to be sent on their way with players of real quality coming in in their stead.

Loaning out some of those players was the only option because of the high wages that most of them are on, but those players need to be sold now or released to make room for the summer overhaul.

There have been murmurings of an impending boardroom shakeup as well as a change in the transfer policy for a while now, and this summer might just see those changes finally implemented.

Gotze or Reus can be as good a start as any, with the likes of David Villa, Victor Valdes, Stevan Jovetic, Etienne Capoue and Victor Wanyama also being lined up -- most of these names of course hinges on whether Arsenal qualify for next year's Champions League or not.

And all of those names of course won't make it to the Emirates, but at least it is quality that is being strongly linked (stressing on the strongly part) with Arsenal at the moment, and not just potential, and that in itself is a refreshing change.
