The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly "gauging" the trade market for star PK Subban and one team that could be interested in a deal is the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, while it's "extremely unlikely" that the Canadiens will trade Subban, teams have shown interest in the star, including the Flyers. Friedman was speaking on Calgary's Sportsnet 960 about a tweet from Louis Jean at TVA Sports that said that Montreal was checking out the market for a deal with Subban. Friedman followed up on the report, saying that the Flyers "had the biggest offer," but added that he didn't "know what that offer was."
Jean previously reported that "one team confirmed" that the Canadiens were "gauging the market" for Subban. Jean supplemented that by saying that he is "not suggesting" that the Canadiens "will trade Subban," but that they have been exploring the market. Friedman said that he does not think that Montreal will trade Subban, but that he "heard" that the Flyers offer "was the best" for the defenseman.
Jean also reported that he "did the rounds" to see if Subban is being shopped on the market and that "one team executive" told him that Subban's " name has come up" this year. CBC reports that Subban is a bit "on the outs" with coach Michel Therrien and that could be one reason why the team has been looking at the market for trades. Subban was called out publicly by Therrien after making a mistake that led to a goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
While one mistake in one regular season game doesn't mean that Subban will be traded, the fact that Therrien called out his star could be a telling sign about their relationship. According to the Montreal Gazette, Therrien said that "an individual mistake cost the game late in the game" and that "unfortunately, at the end of the game when we don't play as a team we could be in trouble and this is what happened," referring to Subban falling and losing the puck, which allowed the eventual game-winner for the Avalanche.
