The New York Knicks have fired head coach Derek Fisher after the team lost its fifth straight game against the Denver Nuggets.

The Knicks were on track to compete for a playoff spot however they have fallen dramatically behind. Associate head coach Kurt Rambis was promoted to interim head coach for the remainder of the season as the Knicks will not look for a long term replacement until the offseason. Rambis may not be the permanent answer as his record with the Minnesota Timberwolves was 56-145.

Rambis is also an ex Los Angeles Laker who has spent a lot of time with Jackson in the past several years. Rambis after his playing days became an assistant for Jackson so he will finally have another chance to show off his coaching prowess. The Knicks appeared to be a playoff bound team but have hit a slump as we approach the All Star break.

Jackson and the rest of the roster will hope that Rambis can at the very least win the Knicks a couple of games if not earn them a playoff berth. Jackson has reiterated that the Knicks will only look for a new coaching candidate in the offseason and considering the limited pool he has now he may need the rest of the season to come up with a decent option.
