Denver Broncos News and Rumors: What Will Danny Trevathan Do In Free Agency?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn throws under pressure from Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan during the first half of their NFL football game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri November 25, 2012."

The Denver Broncos could have a mass evacuation of several key defensive players if they are not careful in free agency.

If the Broncos lose the Super Bowl one would likely assume that teammates who were free agents would look for a stronger team to attach themselves to like after the Broncos lost the Super Bowl to the Seahawks. Now they will see some prominent linebackers get ready to walk away unless they can resign them. Most of the Broncos money will go into either resigning Von Miller or tagging him, the Broncos have $16 million in cap space and that is not nearly enough to handle the amount of contracts that expire.

Trevathan is a solid cover linebacker and is one of the players that allows helps the pass rushers get home simply by locking down a running back in the passing game.

He can drop back and play the pass or blitz if necessary and will most likely get a salary bump if the Broncos win the Super Bowl. Trevathan has played and started in 15 games this season and has missed 14 games in his NFL career. In 2015 Trevathan had 109 combined tackles, 6 pass defenses, 2 interceptions, and a defensive touchdown.

In his career he has recorded 282 combined tackles, 3 sacks, 19 pass defenses, 5 interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 3 forced fumbles. Trevathan's cap hit should only be around $1,568,018 so a lot of teams could be willing to take a chance on the talented linebacker.

Interested teams include the Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins. The Broncos should quickly see themselves priced out of Trevathan's new contract.
