The Washington Redskins have other issues this offseason than just the contract to Kirk Cousins. With the salary cap tight, the team might have to make a few key decisions when it comes to veterans on the team. The wide receiver position comes into the spotlight as the Redskins look to add youth to the roster. With both DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon carrying large contracts, does one stay over the other?

According to the Washington Post, the chances the Redskins keep both receivers are slim. In terms of production, Jackson is the better option. Simply put, the Redskins are 3-4 when he is hurt and 6-3 when he is on the field. Jackson's cap hit is more manageable and he is the better playmaker. However, he has not been a favorite of the front office. Many believe that general manager Scot McCloughan might like Jackson on the field, but not off the field. If a trade deal were to come up, McCloughan might not hesitate to make a move.

While there is no clear report that Jackson is a trade target this offseason, Washington might be pressured into making a move if the return package is good. The Detroit Lions immediately become an option if Calvin Johnson officially retires. Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com suggest the Lions would make a run at Alshon Jeffery, but the organization would love to have Jackson's playmaking skills on the roster. The Cleveland Browns could be an option along with the San Diego Chargers who need help.

According to the Washington Post, McCloughan is targeting a young, physical receiver to add to the roster this offseason. That could come in the draft or in free agency. Players like Braxton Miller, Josh Doctson or Will Fuller would be solid options for the Redskins to place on offense and help Cousins out. Regardless of whether Jackson stays or goes, the Redskins need receiver help and the draft will have good picks for the team.

If a decision comes down between Garcon and Jackson, the veteran is the better release for the Redskins. Garcon is a locker room favorite and his production on the field has always been consistent. However, the receiver is a $10 million cap hit in 2016 in the final year of his contract. That is a lot of money to pay a receiver who will be 30 next year. The Redskins could really use that money elsewhere to improve the defense and sign a starting running back. Not to mention Cousins is going to demand a pretty penny from the Redskins and Washington needs to re-sign him. Releasing Garcon would help.
