Rookie sensation Melvin Gordon's disappointing season is now over.

Gordon apparently tore some cartilage in his knee which will require surgery. The Chargers are likely grateful the injury was not something more serious such as an ACL or MCL injury however the IR tag is still pretty disappointing for a player who was looked at as the second best rookie running back with Todd Gurley the only player ahead of him. Gordon will finish the season with 184 carries, 6 fumbles, 641 yards, and no touchdowns.

This is hardly the type of season the Chargers expected out of Gordon and they will likely need to bring up a running back from their practice squad to help out with getting through these two final games.  The Chargers offensive line was plagued by injury and ineffectiveness this season as Gordon frequently got hit early into his runs as defensive lines got constant penetration.

The one thing that was not the offensive lines fault was the amount of fumbles Gordon had. Gordon will need to work on limiting his turnovers if he truly wants to make a transition to a reliable full time NFL lead back. A better comparison for Gordon might be 2nd round pick Ameer Abdullah who has had a rough time behind a bad Lions offensive line as well.

Gordon's sophomore year will be a big one for him as a player and for the Chargers organization whether they relocate or not.
