In recent years the battle between Florida State and Florida has lacked some excitement. With Jameis Winston under center, the Seminoles rolled over the Gators the past two years. However, this year is different. For the first time in awhile, both Florida State and Florida are ranked entering this game. The Gators have not played well recently, but need momentum if they plan on heading into the SEC Championship with something good going while Florida State is looking to prove they are still contenders.

Both the Seminoles and the Gators play similar styles this year. Both teams have strong defensive units with good running backs to keep the offense balanced. They have mobile quarterbacks with a few dynamic receivers that could change the game in an instant. For the first time, this rivalry game is better matched for both teams which will make the game very interesting.

The Gators have not impressed lately. Since falling to LSU, the Gators have been winning, but they have lacked anything that gives fans hope of a successful end to the season. They have had nail-bitter finishes against Vanderbilt, South Carolina and even Tennessee. THey cannot afford that against the Seminoles who have a solid offense that can beat the Gators' defense if need be. Pressure will be on Treon Harris who needs a convincing win after a few shaky games. He has seven turnovers in the past four games. The Gators will rely on their defense. They rank third in the nation in scoring defense while being sixth in total defense as a unit. That will be tested against Florida State.

The Seminoles are coming off two disappointing loss, but would like to salvage the season with a big win over the Gators. Everett Golson will be playing his first game against the Gators since transferring to Florida State. The question is whether or not the Seminoles keep him under center. The quarterback was benched after tossing three turnovers against North Carolina State. Sean Maguire is the likely starter for Florida State as he has rebounded the offense.

The Gators need positive momentum. After a few close games, the Gators need a convincing win if they want to go into the SEC Championship game with solid momentum in their favor. Another struggling matchup and the Gators are not going to be feeling good heading to Atlanta. Meanwhile, the Seminoles would love to upset their in-state rivals.
