The NFL suspended Aldon Smith for an entire year without pay due to substance abuse violations. The suspension stems from an incident where Smith got into a hit and run accident which brought up DUI and Vandalism charges against him.

Since the Oakland Raiders have rolled the dice on Smith he has been a pretty decent player finishing this season with 3.5 sacks and 28 combined tackles making this a pretty productive stint with a brand new team.

His 8 quarterback hits tied 1st round draft pick Khalil Mack the most on the team and has only been a very positive addition to a Raiders team that is still trying to find their identity. The Raiders have already stated they wanted to resign Smith so waiting a year will likely only bring his price down. Smith made headlines earlier this year when the San Francisco 49ers released him due to the DUI incident.

Smith has often been plagued with off the field issues and throughout his entire tenure with the 49ers Smith was in some form of trouble. That trouble appears to not bother the silver and black too much. Smith stated that he looks forward to rejoining the team following his suspension.
