Robert Griffin III #10 of the Washington Redskins shakes hands with Victor Cruz #80 of the New York Giants after a game at MetLife Stadium on September 24, 2015 in East Rutherford, New Jersey."

The New York Giants star wide receiver, Victor Cruz is set to have season ending surgery on his calf. It is unknown how long it will take the Giants receiver to recover at this time.

This is a devastating blow for the young wide receiver as he worked incredibly hard to come back from a torn patellar tendon he suffered in 2014. Cruz missed most of 2014 getting injured in week 6 however after tearing a muscle in his calf in training camp, Cruz has not been close to playing.

Cruz's role has been filled by free agent acquisition Dwayne Harris who has performed well as the Giants slot receiver. Harris also works a duel role as a kick returner so it may be in the best interest of the Giants to resign Cruz to a team friendly deal or release him if he continues to struggle with injuries.

Cruz is going to count $9.9 million against the Giants 2016 salary cap so they will have a big decision to make when the season is over. Cruz has been one of the most productive receivers for the Giants in recent memory and his future with Big Blue is very much in doubt.
