The New England Patriots have lost their secret weapon for the season. Dion Lewis came in as an unknown, but proved himself to be one of the most valuable assets the team has. However, his breakout year came to an end Sunday after he tore his ACL in the win over the Washington Redskins. With Lewis out, the Patriots are tasked with replacing one of their most versatile players and head coach Bill Belichick is confident they have options in house to help out.

UPDATE: Cadet has signed with the 49ers.

With Lewis out for the year, LeGarrette Blount steps in as the workhorse running back, but who will be the passing-down back? According to Belichick via the Boston Herald, the roster is loaded with talent that can help fill the void. James White and Brandon Bolden are the best options available for New England. Belichick told the media that Bolden could easily step in for Lewis.

"(Bolden) made plays in the passing game, made plays in the running game (Sunday)," Belichick said, via the Boston Herald. "He's done that for us in the past. He's got good size, good run skills. He's a good blocker in pass protection. He catches the ball well. And I'd say each year he's gotten a little bit better and understands his role, is always ready and prepared and has stepped in and consistently done a good job for us. I'm glad we were able to get (his contract) extended last year. He's been a valuable player for us for several years, but really he's allowed us in a lot of cases to just carry three backs to the game because he can really back up running or passing situations, however the first two guys, however that goes, but he's able to give you quality depth there really on all four downs."

The Patriots could add a body to the roster. Montee Ball has worked out for the team in the past and still remains unsigned. Steven Jackson has also been linked to the Patriots in the past and remains available on the market. There is also Knowshon Moreno who is reportedly healthy. Travaris Cadet is an option, but he is reportedly working out for the 49ers. The issue is that the Patriots need versatility and not someone that can just rush down field. Blount can do that. What the Patriots need is that running back who can complement Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman in the passing game.

Even without Lewis, the Patriots are still loaded on offense and really should have no issues without him. Rob Gronkowski, Edelman, Amendola and the return of Brandon LaFell mean the Patriots still have the needed playmakers to make an impact on the field and keep the win streak going. If the Patriots do add anyone to the roster, it is because they need a healthy body, not because they are panicked.
