Things are not going well for Colin Kaepernick. The quarterback is shouldering most of the blame for the downfalls of the San Francisco 49ers this season as he continues to trend downwards. After getting beat by the Seattle Seahawks, the 49ers are trying to figure out answers to Kaepernick and the offensive struggles that seemed to not be there two seasons ago. After a players-only meeting centered mainly around Kaepernick, is the quarterback on his way out?

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, four weeks ago the 49ers held a players-only meeting and Kaepernick was called out in what was described as a "heated" exchange between teammates. How Maiocco knows this is anyone's guess, but is reporting that players got into arguments and were forced to clear the air. If that meeting was four weeks ago, things have not improved, especially for Kaepernick who is getting force to have his future placed into question for the team.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the 49ers still believe that Kaepernick has a high level of talent, but is struggling more with confidence. Poor performances are certainly not helping the quarterback from feeling good about himself. With the postseason looking far out of reach, the 49ers need to start thinking about whether or not Kaepernick is simply too far gone and if cutting their losses would be an easier way to rebuild.

Kaepernick is only guaranteed injury money at this point in his contract which makes him easy to release or try and trade. The question is whether or not a team would actually take interest in the quarterback who has gone from the potential future of the league to a struggling starter. With several quarterbacks facing questions about their futures, a spot could open up for Kaepernick on another roster.

According to NFL writer and columnist Mike Freeman, the Philadelphia Eagles would be wise to look at Kaepernick as an option. Sam Bradford's contract is expiring. Mark Sanchez is not a long-term option. Kaepernick would be the perfect fit for head coach Chip Kelly's system which requires a more mobile quarterback. The Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Houston Texans will all be looking at their quarterback futures this upcoming offseason. Kaepernick could become a favorite target for teams that believe the quarterback simply needs a change of scenery in order to excel.

San Francisco has plenty of flexibility when it comes to Kaepernick. The team has until April 1 to make a move in regards to his future before his salary becomes guaranteed. With a new regime in place in the franchise, anything is possible if Kaepernick keeps up this trend.
