The New York Jets are preparing for a rivalry matchup against the New England Patriots as they hope their offensive attack is enough to overcome the powerful defense the defending Super Bowl champs bring. Of course Brandon Marshall and Chris Ivory have been headlining the offense over the past few weeks, but a few unfamiliar faces could be joining the mix quickly.

One of the big offseason grabs for the Jets was Stevan Ridley who was fresh off his Super Bowl win with the Patriots. However, Ridley had yet to recover from a knee injury and instead landed himself on injured reserve. That of course opened the door for Ivory along with Bilal Powell to have a strong start to the season. According to the New York Post, Ridley is expected back at practice this week and could actually be active against the Patriots.

Head coach Todd Bowles would only say "maybe" when asked if Ridley would be on the field. It seems unrealistic that the running back would have a big impact in the game, but putting him in on 3rd-and-short situations might be beneficial for the team and to keep Ivory healthy. The Jets have Powell dealing with an injury that has left Zac Stacy to handle the backup role. He was a culprit in the blocked punt as the running back was supposed to be on the field.

The Jets are also bringing on Kenbrell Thompkins for help. According to the Post, receiver Quincy Enunwa has been suspended for four games following violating the league's personal conduct policy. That is a hit for the Jets who are already struggling to get production from their receivers. As a result, NESN.com is reporting Thompkins has been activated from the practice squad. Fans would be wise not to expect much out of the player as he is likely just a filler for depth. Instead, Devin Smith will be getting more playing time while the Jets hope Chris Owusu makes it back onto the field.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets have no interest in other roster additions right now. Yes, the free agent market has talent with Hakeem Nicks, Wes Welker and Reggie Wayne while they could always trade for someone as well. Instead, the Jets will give more responsibility to Owusu and Smith and hope that is enough for Ryan Fitzpatrick to work with.
