Former teammates Barry Zito and Tim Hudson will face off against each other on Saturday for the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics in what could be the final starts of their careers. The teams announced that Zito and Hudson would be the confirmed starters for the game on Saturday.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Zito threw a bullpen session on Tuesday and manager Bob Melvin said that Zito could go for around 50 pitches in the start. Both Hudson and Zito are nearing the end of their careers and the former teammates now will start against each other for the first time. ESPN reports that Billy Beane and Melvin had previously talked with Zito about getting a start and it will be his first since 2013 when he was with the Giants.

Hudson has plans to retire after the season, while Zito also could have this as his last start depending on what happens next year. Zito is 37 and Hudson is 40. Earlier in the month when the potential starting matchup was being talked about, the Athletics mostly dismissed the idea. Zito had been in the minors and was called up last week and with the postseason out of reach, the team had no plans to have Zito start the game.

The Athletics will also be honoring the "Big Three" of Zito, Hudson and Mark Mulder at the game on Sunday and the trio will throw out the first pitch, which will be for the home finale.
