The Dallas Cowboys are still shuffling around some offensive pieces late into the preseason. The Cowboys released undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver George Farmer after a very mediocre camp and signed another undrafted rookie in David Porter.
Porter was a productive product from TCU, he played in all 13 games last season, and in four seasons racked up 74 completions, 954 yards, and 10 touchdowns. The 5'11 wide receiver is not the tallest of the bunch but in one practice with the Cowboys have people asking if he could be the most productive UDFA signed this offseason. Jason Garrett stated
"He got here, worked out at 11:30, practiced at 3:45 and by 4:30 had scored three touchdowns in practice. It was one of the great debuts I've ever seen in my life."
That is high praise coming from a player/coach who has played with greats such as Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith. The Cowboys are hoping to find a new 5th wide receiver to take over punt return duties but they may keep 6 if Porter continues to shine. Porter recently said,
"The coaches said that I've got to really start getting to learning, because I'm going to start getting more reps, so I have to take a lot more extra time getting in that playbook, because I'm behind....I'm way behind. I have a lot to catch up, but they're going to help me through it and hopefully I can get it quick."
Porter added
"My dad is a diehard Cowboys fan. Every Sunday we'd go over to my uncle's house and the whole family is there and we'd watch the Cowboys game. I always grew up watching the Cowboys, and it really is a dream come true to even be out here with this opportunity."
On who his favorite player is....
"It's more like Dez Bryant; closer to my age. I watched him in college and when I was in high school, so I was like 'I want to look like him when I get to college."
If Porter wants to continue his dream to play for the Dallas Cowboys he needs to continue to produce like one and Dez Bryant is the height of production.
