The San Diego Padres might be one of the worst home teams in the league this season, but getting the Atlanta Braves in a three-game series has certainly help fix that issue. The team is 28-29 at home this season, but has exploded at the plate during their stint against the Braves as many current Padres' players face their former team. Melvin Upton enjoyed the reunion on Tuesday as he went 3 for 4 with two home runs for a 9-0 loss. Can the Braves bounce back?
The Braves are looking to salvage this series after getting blown out on Tuesday. They managed the Monday night win and now will aim to get on in the afternoon on Wednesday as their road trip continues. Upton told the media that he certainly enjoyed getting the big hit against his former team as the Braves traded him prior to the year beginning. Upton has not excelled that much this season, hitting just .208.
The Padres will put Tyson Ross on the mound for the back-to-back win. He is having his own set of struggles as he has a 4.40 ERA in his last 10 starts at home. He is pitching 2.71 on the road. In his last two starts at Petco Park, he gave up seven runs in 12 innings. Both games resulted in losses and now the Braves will try and take advantage of the pitcher. Ross is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts against the Braves, but Freddie Freeman is 1-for-6 against him. The first baseman will return after sitting on the disabled list since the beginning of August.
Julio Teheran will take the mound for the Atlanta Braves. The pitcher has been a near disaster on the road this season with a 2-5 record and 6.75 ERA in 12 starts. He did have a strong showing against the Philadelphia Phillies by giving up just two runs and striking out seven in seven innings. Teheran has looked strong lately. The Braves have won his last three starts while he recorded a 2.75 ERA. Atlanta needs Teheran to improve on the road if they are going to salvage this road trip and the season.
