The MLB trade deadline doesn't mean trading season is over, as players can be traded on waivers and names like James Shields, Chase Utley, Ian Kennedy, Martin Prado, Francisco Rodriguez, Mike Napoli, Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Davis and Jeff Samardzija could be potential targets for teams now that the non-waiver deadline has passed.

The trade deadline was a wild one this year and players like David Price, Ben Zobrist, Johnny Cueto, Cole Hamels, Carlos Gomez, Yoenis Cespedes and Ben Revere were traded. There was a ton of talk that the San Diego Padres would sell hard, but that didn't end up happening and now they could look at moving players after the non-waiver deadline like James Shields or Ian Kennedy. Martin Prado has had a lot of interest from teams, while Jerry Crasnick at ESPN writes that players like Chase Utley, Carlos Gomez and Francisco Rodriguez could be moved.

The Yankees went after Dustin Ackley and gave up two prospects to the Seattle Mariners, but the team did not make a move for a pitcher, which many around baseball expected. Brian Cashman was engaged in talks with the San Diego Padres about Craig Kimbrel, but the Yankees were willing to give up major prospects. Justin Upton could be an option for the Padres to move, but since he is a free agent the team could get a draft pick if he signs away in the winter.

Crasnick writes that Utley could be an option once he returns from the disabled list, as the Phillies are in a hard rebuild after moving Hamels. Philadelphia has prospects ready to move up and if Utley is moved, teams like the Angels and Cubs are options. The Yankees may have been in the mix, but after bringing in Dustin Ackley, they likely have an option for second base if they move from Stephen Drew. Francisco Rodriguez is with the Brewers and they have already moved Gomez and now could find a contender to take the stud reliever.

This trade deadline has been active with big names, including Cole Hamels, David Price and Johnny Cueto getting traded. Hamels was moved for a big package by the Texas Rangers, while the Blue Jays went all-in with Price and Troy Tulowitzki. Cueto was acquired by the Royals along with Ben Zobrist to give Kansas City and edge in the AL, while the Mets stocked up with Yoenis Cespedes, Tyler Clippard, Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson. The Marlins could move the utility man Prado, as the team has already traded Mat Latos, Dan Haren and Michael Morsea and could continue to make deals.
