Darrelle Revis #24 of the New England Patriots strips the ball from A.J. Green #18 of the Cincinnati Bengals during the third quarter at Gillette Stadium on October 5, 2014 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. "

A.J. Green might just be the Bengals most dangerous offensive weapon. Even in an injury plagued 2014 he still managed to gain over 1,000 yards in 13 games. Green is coming towards the end of his contract with the Bengals and he currently has no competition for the number 1 wide receiver job.

The other wide receivers on the roster with the exception of Mohamed Sanu have been pretty ineffective. Marvin Jones has been hampered with injuries and unable to reach his full potential. Sanu is a quality number 2, wide receiver but struggles when having to take on the same load as Green. The Bengals can rely on their run game for a large part of their offense but Green excels in stretching out defense allowing rushing holes to open up and keeping the safeties honest.

Green's contract is up at the end of this season and it is likely he is seeking money near the $70 million range like his NFC East counterpart Dez Bryant. The only way A.J. does not get paid is if the Bengals enjoy not winning playoff games. A.J. is the first piece in what could be a very competitive team, what needs help is the defense and the offensive line.

The Bengals would be crazy to let Green hit free agency because any team with any significant amount of cap space would make a play for him. The Bengals need to make signing Green to a long term extension a priority so they can secure some semblance of a future.
