The United States and Honduras will open up their Gold Cup tournament play on Tuesday night and the CONCACAF match starts at 9:30 pm ET and will be on TV from Fox Sports 1 and streaming from the Fox Soccer 2Go website from Frisco, Texas at Toyota Stadium as Jurgen Klinsmann's team tries to defend its title at the event.
The United States are in good form after scoring four goals against Guatemala last week and they are trying to win the Gold Cup for the second straight time. The US team had its best run through 2013 and into the World Cup and they are hoping to try and set that up as qualifying gets going for Russia in 2018. The Women's National Soccer Team won the World Cup against Japan over the weekend and now the men's side will get things going on Tuesday.
Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore will have focus on them as the United States opens the Gold Cup and it comes after Altidore suffered an injury back in Brazil. Klinsmann has shut down talk when asked of predicting what would have happened had Altidore been healthy at the World Cup, but he has to wonder it would have been like to have Dempsey and Altidore out there at the same time. Panama and Haiti played the other game in the group to open things up and the United States is looking to get off to a good start in the Gold Cup.
The United States has established itself as a strong player on the world stage, but they are still looking to get to a World Cup final and they come in looking to win this tournament again. Last time around the team won over Panama and this year coming in they have played friendlies with Germany and the Netherlands, winning those matches to give the team some confidence.
Klinsmann said after the last victory that the team could have better form and that should happen with Dempsey and Michael Bradley set to start with Altidore. DeAndre Yedlin played the entire game last time out and he could get a long look, while Kyle Beckerman will be in the mix as well after getting some rest in the last exhibition.
The United States comes in after a strong World Cup performance last year and for this tournament Michael Bradley will have the captain's armband. The United States play against Honduras to start the Gold Cup and the match will be in Frisco at Toyota Stadium and has TV coverage on Fox Sports 1. The United States Women's team just won the World Cup and this is part of the path for the men to Russia in 2018.
The team had a strong year when winning the Gold Cup the last time around and that set up one of the best World Cup performances ever for Team USA. The team comes in after winning against Guatemala on Friday night and now they head into real play after the warm-up.
