The FIFA Women's World Cup Final has the United States playing against Japan and the game will be a rematch from the 2011 finals and it comes after Japan defeated England following an own goal from Laura Bassett, while Team USA won over Germany in the semifinals.

The United States won over Germany in a tight match that saw things turn on a pair of penalty kicks, while Japan advanced after a very tough own goal by England. Bassett made a play on a cross ball in the offensive zone from Japan and she inadvertently put the shot in off the crossbar. The score at that point was 1-1 before the goal and that gave Japan the lead and the match ended a minute after the blunder.

Japan and the US now will have a rematch after playing in the last Women's World Cup final, which Japan won on penalty kicks. The final is from Vancouver and will be on Sunday and this time the United States is looking to win it. The US won 2-0 over number one ranked Germany to advance, while Japan took down England 2-1 after the stoppage time goal.

Japan won in the finals against the US after previously beating Germany in that World Cup and the team came from behind to defeat the United States. The teams have played in three straight major finals, as they also played in the Olympics in the gold medal game, with the United States winning over Japan for that victory. Coach Jill Ellis said she was happy with the effort of her team against Germany and that the team has a goal of winning the title this time around.
