Todd Gurley of the Georgia Bulldogs holds up a jersey with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after being picked #10 overall by the St. Louis Rams during the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University on April 30, 2015 in Chicago, Illinois."

The St. Louis Rams are hoping that running back Todd Gurley will be ready for training camp after tearing his ACL last season and he is meeting with Dr. James Andrews to see if he is healthy enough to avoid the PUP list this summer and it comes as Tre Mason likely will start with the first team offense if Gurley is not ready.

Gurley was the first running back off the board in the NFL draft and he is coming into camp after tearing his ACL at Georgia last season. According to Pro Football Talk, Gurley said that he thinks he will be ready to start the season for the Rams, but he has not been officially cleared for camp yet. Gurley spoke with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on Sirius XM NFL Radio and said that he is meeting with Dr. James Andrews about his knee and he thinks it's "pretty realistic" he will be ready for camp.

Gurley said that he will be meeting with Andrews to have his knee examined and it will be happening in "a couple of weeks." If Gurley is cleared, he likely will split time with Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham and Isaiah Pead for the Rams on offense. Gurley could end up on the PUP list to start training camp and that could give him more time to recover if his knee has any issues. Gurley said returning healthy for training camp is what he's "shooting for".

Gurley was considered to be the best running back in the draft by some scouts, but he was coming off of an injury and that made his status uncertain. Gurley comes in after a solid career with the Georgia Bulldogs and his contract with the Rams has some protection for the team. According to the Boston Globe, only the first two years of Gurley's contract is guaranteed and he has an $8 million signing bonus.

The team added Nick Foles in the offseason in a trade with the Eagles for Sam Bradford and he is coming in as the starter. Foles and the Rams have had "initial talks" about a contract extension this offseason, according to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport. Foles is coming off of a shoulder injury, but the Rams saw enough in him to trade Bradford, who was also coming off of an injury. Bradford was owed a lot of money and Foles is coming in after throwing for 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions in 2013, hsi only full season as a starter.
