The NBA finals got started with the Golden State Warriors winning in overtime against the Cavs and they now have a 1-0 series lead in the playoff standings against LeBron James and the matchup saw Kyrie Irving go down with an injury in the extra period and his status for Game 2 is uncertain.

The Cavaliers had a chance at the end of regulation to win the game with a shot from James and a put back attempt by Iman Shumpert, but it did not fall and it went to overtime. The Cavs missed 10 straight shots at the end and in overtime and the Warriors nearly held the team scoreless in the extra frame. The Warriors outscored the team 10-2 and they won 108-100 to take a 1-0 series lead in the finals.

The Cavaliers had a real chance to win and they took a 10 point lead early in the game, but they could not hold on. The Warriors had only lost twice at home in the regular season and this could be the best chance for the Cavs to win on the road in this series. James set his season high with 44 points and he also added eight rebounds and six assists. Steph Curry led with 26 points, four rebounds and eight assists for the Warriors and Game 2 on Sunday.

Irving went down after twisting his leg and he had to leave the game and went into the locker room. The overtime period was a mess for the Cavs and now they have to get things going into Game 2 to avoid going down 2-0 in the series. Andrew Bogut had seven rebounds and Tristan Thompson added 15 boards for the Cavs and he has been big for the team with Kevin Love out of action with an injury.

Irving has been banged up through the playoffs and coach David Blatt said after the game that he was uncertain of what Irving will be dealing with over the next few days. Irving had a week off between the conference finals and the finals and now he has a few days in Oakland to recover. Irving was playing very well in the game when he went down, as he had 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Cavaliers.

Irving will get an MRI on Friday and that will give the team a better idea of how long Irving will be out. Irving went down in the fourth quarter after getting tangled up with Klay Thompson and losing him for any period of time will be big for the Cavs. The Warriors feel that they won a game that the Cavs had every chance to take and now they may be able to take advantage of the Cavs in Game 2 if Irving is out.
