The Miami Dolphins brought in Jordan Cameron as a free agent this offseason and he should be a great safety net in the starting lineup for Ryan Tannehill along with starters Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings and DeVante Parker and this comes as rookies like Tony Lippett, Jordan Phillips, Parker and Jay Ajayi have impressed in camp OTA workouts.
The Dolphins are looking to get back to the playoffs after missing out again last season and they stepped up this offseason by signing Ndamukong Suh to a big contract. Tannehill had his best season as a pro last year and he signed a long term contract extension this offseason and he is expected to keep developing into the right direction. The Dolphins signed Cameron along with Greg Jennings this offseason and the team also added DeVante Parker and Jay Ajayi in the draft to help the offense.
Cameron was signed to help with the loss of Charles Clay and now he has the chance to make a big impact for the Dolphins on offense. Cameron was injured for part of last season, but he has the potential to be a Jimmy Graham-type player with his size. Cameron should be a strong redzone target for Tannehill and he has the potential to be a productive part of the offense. Last season Cameron plated in 10 games and had just 24 catches for 424 yards and two touchdowns.
Cameron had his best season in 2013 when he played in 15 games and had a career best 80 catches for 917 yards and seven touchdowns and that type of production is what the Dolphins want. Clay was a very solid player, but the Buffalo Bills paid him a ton and Miami was simply not going to go that high. According to the Miami Herald, Clay averaged over four catches per game and the Dolphins are looking for Cameron to be in that wheelhouse. Cameron was frustrated last season and now he has a two-year contract with Miami.
The Dolphins offense is also getting a boost from Parker, who was a first round draft pick this year out of Louisville. Parker has strong hands and great speed and so far in camp he has been impressive and should push to start for the Dolphins. Parker was picked at number 14 overall in the first round and both Tannehill and Matt Moore said they were impressed by how Parker looked in OTA workouts and rookie camp. The team has Jarvis Landry coming back after a strong rookie season and now Parker is looking to have one of his own.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Lippett has been making an impact on the defensive side of the ball and it comes after he played wideout in college. The paper reports that Lippett played five games while playing at Michigan State as a cornerback, but then he was moved to wideout. The team now is using his as a cornerback and he has the chance to make the roster as a late round draft pick. As a senior Lippett had 65 catches, 1,198 yards and 11 touchdowns and now he is playing at cornerback for the Dolphins. Phillips also should make an impact, as he is coming out of Oklahoma with a great pedigree and will play alongside Suh.
