NFL fans have been waiting for the outcome of 'Deflategate' for some time now and the NFL finally made a ruling on Monday that drew mixed reactions. In a league statement, the NFL announced that New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady would be suspended four games for his role in deflating footballs during the AFC Championship Game while the Patriots must pay $1 million in fines along with giving up 2016's first-round draft pick and 2017's fourth-round draft pick. So where do the Patriots go from here?

According to ESPN.com, the Patriots are expected to appeal the suspension of Brady, but if it is upheld the quarterback will not return until Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. As a result, second-year pro Jimmy Garoppolo will be the likely starter over Garrett Gilbert to begin the year. New England originally drafted Garoppolo with the intentions that he could be the next heir to the Brady quarterback throne and the Patriots will now get a nice look to see if he is really capable of the task.

Garoppolo saw some playing time last season as Brady struggled for a small stretch of time. He was credited for 182 yards last season and one touchdowns pass. Head coach Bill Belichick expressed full confidence in the second-year pro as he will now get a real taste of being a starting quarterback in the league for four games.

"Jimmy has worked hard and consistently improved every week,"Belichick said, via ESPNBoston.com. "He's running different offenses with the scout team and having to keep up with what we are doing and our installation and our game plan on a weekly basis. He's been durable, healthy, out there every day, keeps getting better. He's been better and has a better understanding of the league."

There is a question of depth at the quarterback spot. While it is only four games, the Patriots should be concerned should something happen to Garoppolo. The Boston Herald reports that a free agent signing feels unlikely, but there are options available should the Patriots feel pressured to make a move. Matt Flynn and Michael Vick are the highlights of the remaining free agents. Belichick is not expected to make a move for either player, but it is an option New England has.

Meanwhile, Patriots players are beginning to speak out over the suspension of Brady. Running back LeGarrette Blount is not happy. He took to Twitter to call the punishment "absolutely ridiculous." For now, the pressure falls on the remaining roster to step up and help whoever is at the quarterback position. Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell and Blount will be expected to carry the weight for the first four games without Brady.
