The Miami Dolphins are coming into the 2015 season with pressure to make the playoffs and they may look at a draft trade up to get a playmaker like Amari Cooper or Kevin White and this comes as the team has met with free agents Wes Welker and Greg Jennings and as a contract extension for quarterback Ryan Tannehill is in the works.
The Dolphins scored the biggest win of the offseason by signing Ndamukong Suh and now they will be looking to be in the mix in the AFC. Joe Philbin was brought back for another year and with Tannehill coming off of his best season as a pro, Miami is looking to finish with a winning record. According to CBS Sports, the team is considering a trade into the top 10 of the draft, as they could be targeting playmakers like Cooper, White, DeVante Parker or Todd Gurley.
Cooper and White are the top receivers in the draft and Parker is right there in the second group along with Jaelen Strong from Arizona State. The Dolphins likely will not be able to get either Cooper or White if they stay at number 14 and that is why they are calling teams about what it could cost to move up. The team could be in line for Parker or Strong if they stand pat, but there is a chance they could end up without any of those players.
Tannehill needs some more depth after the Dolphins moved Mike Wallace and released Brandon Gibson and Brian Hartline. The team brought in Kenny Stills in a trade to join with Jarvis Landry, but there is still some room for players at the position. The Dolphins met with Wes Welker this offseason and they also had some interest in Greg Jennings and they could pick up one of those players to add a veteran to that mix with Wallace gone. Welker had a down season last year with the Broncos, but he could be a solid third or fourth option for the Dolphins.
White is a bigger and faster player than Cooper, but Cooper is considered to more polished player overall and the better route runner. Tannehill set career highs last season in passing yards, completion percentage, touchdowns and a low in interceptions and that is why the Dolphins want to give him more to work with. Landry had a strong rookie season, but after adding Stills the team could use another playmaker and a veteran at receiver. The team added Jordan Cameron to take over for Charles Clay, while Lamar Miller returns at running back.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Dolphins and Tannehill have started talking about a contract exertion and the team hopes to get it done before the season. The Dolphins signed Mike Pouncey to a deal and now it could be Tannehill's turn and the report says it could be worth $105 million over seven seasons. Last season Tannehill threw for over 4000 yards for the first time and set career highs with a 66 percent completion rate and 27 touchdown passes.
