NHL Playoffs Standings and Results: Montreal Canadiens Win In Overtime, Capitals Tie Islanders Series 1-1

The Montreal Canadiens won over the Ottawa Senators in overtime to take a 2-0 series lead in the first round in the NHL playoffs on Friday night and the Washington Capitals won at home over the NY Islanders to tie their series 1-1 as things shift to New York.

The Canadiens won Game 1 and they were able to take things in Game 2 after an overtime goal from Alex Galchenyuk to win in the extra period. Montreal is up 2-0 in the series as the first round heads to Ottawa and the win came after regulation goals from PK Subban and Max Pacioretty. The goaltender both played very well, but Carey Price came out on top with 29 saves for the Canadiens.

Andrew Hammond had 39 saves for the Senators and he allowed the overtime winner and now the team will try to avoid going down 3-0 with Game 3 at home. The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the first period before Montreal came back with two goals in the second, but Ottawa was able to tie it up in the third period before heading to overtime.

The Capitals got a much needed win at home in Game 2 against the Islanders with a 4-3 victory and it came with goals in the third period. The Islanders won Game 1 and this was a much needed victory for Washington, who can steal back home ice with a win on Long Island. Alex Ovechkin had a goal and so did Nicklas Backstrom and the Caps scored two goals in the third period to come back from a 3-2 deficit.
