The Miami Dolphins have been in the market for a wide receiver for several weeks now. The team continues to shuffle their feet on deciding the best route to take at the need. After losing Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson and Charles Clay, the team needs to replace at least one of those players with a solid option. After sifting through the wide receiver market in free agency, is the draft the best option?
According to Rob Range of CBSSports.com, the Miami Dolphins are attempting to trade up into the top 10 picks of the draft with Kevin White as their primary target. According to Range, the Dolphins believe White is the easiest option to get in the draft considering Amari Cooper could be gone in the first three picks. White is viewed as his equal with the same talents and the Dolphins could mirror the trade of the Buffalo Bills last season who jumped up for Sammy Watkins.
The receiver position is a priority for the Dolphins. Ryan Tannehill is entering a very critical season as quarterback and needs weapons. Right now he has Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills and Jordan Cameron. That is simply not enough. Either Cooper or White would be quality options for Tannehill to work with as both players could start right away for the franchise.
There is still the lingering idea of getting a free agency as the Dolphins have worked out everyone available. According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins were rejected by Michael Crabtree who turned down their $3.5 million contract offer. Greg Jennings remains an option as he took a visit with the team, but left without a deal. Wes Welker is also an option. The Herald reported the former Dolphins receiver came in for a workout with Miami. Welker would likely sign for cheap considering the Dolphins are the only team that have taken interest in him since free agency began. However, production could be an issue.
Hakeem Nicks is also available. Nicks could be good if he plays to his potential. The receiver made it clear that he is not finished in this league despite his value being next to nothing. The Dolphins must be aggressive if they want a free agent. Any team preparing to miss out on a top rookie will look to the open market for help immediately.
