The Seattle Seahawks are coming into the offseason after a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss and the biggest priorities are Marshawn Lynch and his potential retirement and locking up Russell Wilson and this comes as the team could look at signing free agents like Darrelle Revis, Justin Houston, Brian Orakpo, Byron Maxwell, Cecil Shorts, Julius Thomas, Mark Ingram or Ryan Mathews in free agency.
The Seahawks are projected to have about $25 million in cap space this offseason and they could free up more depending on the cuts they make. According to ESPN.com, Wilson could be in line to get a massive contract extension and reports have him potentially being one of the highest paid players in the league. Wilson has been to two Super Bowl games already in three seasons as the starter and he could make close to what the highest paid QBs make in the league.
Lynch is a major question mark and he may not return in 2015 for the Seahawks. Former teammate Michael Robinson said that Lynch is considering retirement, according to Pro Football Talk and this comes after Pete Carroll and John Schneider said they wanted to bring Lynch back for 2015. Lynch is coming off of another productive season and he could be looking at a raise if he re-signs.
Ndamukong Suh has expressed interest in signing with the Seahawks, but unless he wants to take a cut from where he likely will get paid this offseason, it won't be happening. CBS Sports reported earlier this month that Suh was interested in signing with the Seahawks, as he wants to win a Super Bowl and is from the Pacific northwest. Suh reportedly wants $100 million and at least $50 million guaranteed as one of the highest paid players in football and if he asks for that, it likely eliminates the Seahawks as an option to sign him.
The Seahawks may look at the tight end position in free agency, as names like Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron and Jermaine Gresham are on the market. The Seahawks started using Luke Wilson more at the end of the season, but he is not a proven player and if they have some cap space to spare, they could go after someone like Thomas. Thomas has scored 24 touchdowns in the past two seasons and he is likely to leave the Broncos.
The more likely options are Cameron and Gresham, as the two tight ends will be cheaper on the market. Cameron is "not likely" to sign back with the Browns after the mess the team was last season, according to Pro Football Talk, while Gresham is not expected to sign back with the Bengals. Lynch is the key for the Seahawks, as he has been their most valuable player over the last few years. Lynch has been as consistent as anyone in the league the past few years, rushing for at least 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns in each of the last four seasons.
