Quarterback Carson Palmer #3 of the Arizona Cardinals is escorted off the field by training staff after being injured in the third quarter of the NFL game against the St. Louis Rams at University of Phoenix Stadium on November 9, 2014 in Glendale, Arizona."

The Arizona Cardinals have lost Carson Palmer to a serious injury and now Drew Stanton will have to step up for the team and he could be a solid fantasy football pickup for owners in Week 11, as the team is playing the Lions and the Cards have been one of the top teams to open the 2014 season and now Andre Ellington, Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald will have to keep things going without their starting QB.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Cardinals fear that Palmer will be out for the season and it comes after Palmer just signed a contract on Friday for $50 million. Palmer was caught up on the turf and appeared to twist his leg and if it's an ACL injury like the Cardinals fear, it would mark the second time in his career that he has suffered the injury. The injury would be to the same knee as well on his left leg that he suffered back in the playoffs in 2005 when he was with the Bengals.

The Cardinals are off to an 8-1 start this season and that is their best record since back in the 1940s and now the team will need Drew Stanton to take over. This season Stanton started and won against the Giants and he went 2-1 this season with Palmer out and now he will have to take over. Palmer has helped stabilize the Cardinals after a few years of QB uncertainty and now he will be out and next year could be in question as well.

Palmer had passed for 1626 yards in six games this season and had 11 touchdowns with three interceptions and was competing over 62 percent of his passes. Last season he had a strong year with 4274 yards and while he had 22 picks, he also had 24 touchdowns. Stanton now will be the number one and he comes in with 614 yards in four games along with three TDs and no picks. Stanton had 780 yards passing for Detroit back in 2010 and now he takes over the Cardinals offense and he has been immersed in that for years with Bruce Arians and now has to be the guy to take the team into the playoffs.

Stanton hit John Brown on an impressive 48 yard TD and now players like Brown, Floyd, Andre Ellington and Larry Fitzgerald will have to step up with Palmer out. Palmer signed a deal with $20.5 million guaranteed and now he will likely be out for the season and the team now is looking at Stanton as the starter. Arians said that more tests will be done, but all signs point to an ACL injury.

"We don't know anything about Carson's injury or the length or whatever it is yet," Arians said following Arizona's 31-14 victory. "It is obviously a knee, but he will be evaluated and get an MRI and everything, and we'll know something more hopefully by Tuesday."
