Mike Trout #27 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is congratulated by manager Mike Scioscia (L) and pitching coach Mike Butcher (R) after hitting a homerun in the eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on August 9, 2014 in Anaheim, California."

The MLB Standings 2014 has the Kansas City Royals as the newest division leader and they join the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers, while the LA Angels, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals are the American League and National League wild card teams heading into the meat of the August schedule in baseball.

The AL East has the Baltimore Orioles leading the Toronto Blue Jays and Yankees by a wide margin and they look like they have it locked up. The Kansas City Royals are now leading the Detroit Tigers by a half game, while the Oakland Athletics are leading the LA Angels by 3.5 games. The NL East has the Washington Nationals leading, while the Brewers are first in the NL Central and the Dodgers are leading the Giants in the west.

The wild card in the American League shifted a bit, as the Detroit Tigers are now in the second spot behind the Los Angeles Angels and things are tight behind those teams. The Seattle Mariners are one game out and they are one game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays, while the NY Yankees are three games out right now. The Indians and Rays are hanging on, but right now are likely out of things. The Tigers have been struggling and the Royals have been amazingly hot and now they are in first place.

The National League wild card will be tight until the end and the two teams in there -- the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals -- are also still alive in the NL Central race with the Brewers. The San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves are in the mix with the Cincinnati Reds, while the Marlins are hanging around but likely out of it.
