The MLB Standings heading into the 2014 playoffs are getting tight in the AL and NL and the division leaders on August 10 are the LA Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals, while the wild card teams are the Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Royals, Pirates, Cardinals and Giants into August.

The American League East has the Baltimore Orioles leading the Yankees and Blue Jays by six games and all of a sudden they have the biggest lead in the AL of any of the division leaders. The Detroit Tigers now have the Kansas City Royals nipping at their heels and they are just 1.5 games back, while the Cleveland Indians are 6.5 games back and on the fringes of the wild card race. The Oakland Athletics are still leading the AL West, but they are four games up over the LA Angels.

The National League has the Washington Nationals leading the Atlanta Braves in the east by 4.5 games, while the Miami Marlins are 6.5 games back now. The NL Central has the Milwaukee Brewers leading the Pittsburgh Pirates by 2.5 games and they are a half game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Reds are six back in the standings. The AL West has the Los Angeles Dodgers in first place and they are up over the San Francisco Giants and that's a two horse race with the Padres over 10 games out.

The National League is tight in the wild card race and the Pittsburgh Pirates are leading in the first spot over the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. That group is all close along with the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds and it likely will go down to the wire in the NL for those playoff spots. The American League has the LA Angels in the lead by a wide margin over the Kansas City Royals and they have a big group chasing them. The AL has the Seattle Mariners, NY Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays are all a game and a half back heading into Sunday, while the Indians are five back.
