The Oakland Raiders have Matt McGloin and Derek Carr behind Matt Schaub for the 2014 season and the team may look at a Matt McGloin trade down the line with the Houston Texans or someone else if there are injuries to Tom Savage or Ryan Fitzpatrick and this comes as the Raiders have Carr and Schaub working to start this summer in training camp, with Schaub having the inside edge.

The trade is unlikely since the Raiders and the Texans are mostly set into training camp, but there is always a chance it could go down before the preseason starts to heat up. The Raiders stuck with McGloin over Terrelle Pryor this offseason after trading for Matt Schaub since he fits that style of QB better, but now that the team has drafted Derek Carr, they could live with losing McGloin and trading him to a team like the Texans could get a decent return. The Texans have Savage as a rookie and Fitzpatrick coming in along with Case Keenum and that doesn't breed much confidence, making some think that O'Brien could go after McGloin.

Once again, very unlikely, but the Houston Chronicle ran a column a couple weeks ago posing the question to Bill O'Brien, who could look at McGloin as a short term option until Savage can get himself ready to start. The Texans bypassed Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater in the draft along with others like Jimmy Garoppolo and Derek Carr to take Jadeveon Clowney and while that was the right move, they ended up stuck with Savage, who will need to build up his confidence and skills after being taken out of Pitt.

O'Brien is a quarterback guy and he worked with Tom Brady in New England and while McGloin is not anything close to that, he showed in seven games last season that he could handle playing in the NFL and that could be enough for O'Brien. The two made some magic together at Penn State in some very tough circumstances and he could be a bridge option for a year or two as the team gets Savage ready. Last season McGloin split time with Pryor and played in seven games, passing for 1,547 yards and eight touchdowns with eight picks.

Last season the Raiders went 4-12 under Dennis Allen and now this could be his last shot with the team, as that was their record two years ago and now they need to make sure they improve in 2014. Reggie McKenzie did a fine job in free agency bringing in names like Justin Tuck, James Jones and other veterans and that should help players like Khalil Mack, Derek Carr and Brice Butler develop.

The team has some young talent and some veterans in important spots and this season will be big for the futures of both McKenzie and Allen with the franchise. Last season the Raiders ranked 25th in passing yards per game and they are hoping Schaub and the receivers can help that and adding Mack should help improve a defense that was ranked in the bottom part of the league overall. The team picked Mack fifth overall and he joins DJ Hayden as first round draft picks on defense over the past two seasons.
