The Oakland Raiders were mentioned as an option for Andre Johnson when he was holding out, but now that he is back, names like Mike Wallace or Danny Amendola could be in the mix for a trade, as the team wants more support for Denarius Moore in the offense and those names could be options if the team wants to pull off the rare training camp deal.
The Andre Johnson trade rumors are now over after he showed up to training camp and teams like the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers now have to look elsewhere if they want wideout support, as four teams were interested in making the deal earlier in the summer, but right now it is off the table after he showed to camp.
Some of this is what could have happened if Johnson did not show up to camp, but spoiler alert, he did and now the Texans are very happy, although he is dealing with a hamstring injury right now. According to NFL.com, four teams in the NFL were interested in making a deal for Johnson, but the Texans are not currently motivated to make a move, as they would be on the hook for money on the salary cap this year. The Texans are coming off of a 2-14 season and Johnson has been away from team activities and workouts all offseason and as training camp gets closer to starting, more attention will be on the situation.
Teams with salary cap space and draft picks are likely the only ones that would trade for Johnson and with the Texans not currently searching for a deal, chances are if a trade goes down it would be during the season and no training camp.
Last season Johnson made 109 receptions for 1,407 yards and five touchdowns with Matt Schaub and undrafted rookie Case Keenum throwing him the ball team. Earlier in the offseason Johnson said to the media that he was unsure if Houston was the place for him anymore and he also spoke about playing for a new head coach as something he wasn't looking forward to going through, but now he is in and all appears forgiven. Johnson spoke about missing the playoffs and only going to the postseason two times and he was dismayed at dealing with another rebuilding season after the team won just two games and lost 14 straight during 2013.
Johnson is 32 years old and is coming to the back stretch of his career and while he has not asked for a trade or a new contract, he has remained away from the team this offseason. Johnson holds basically every record for the Texans with over 900 catches and 12,000 receiving yards in 11 years with the team and now he could be gone in the future. The biggest issue with Johnson is the money tied up in his deal, as the Texans would have dead money on their cap and the new team would also have to take on a big chunk.
