Argentina national team star Lionel Messi prepares for a team game in the 2014 World Cup."

Both Argentina and Belgium have failed to live up to the expectations place on them entering the 2014 World Cup. Both teams have looked great at moments while struggling heavily in others. That has been the theme of this year's tournament with other heavy favorites like Brazil Brazil and Italy struggling as well. Argentina and Belgium cannot afford that kind of play Saturday as they face off in the quarterfinals.

Argentina needs their offense and attack to get into sync again. That will be tough with Sergio Aguero out for the game after he tore a muscle in group play. Argentina will start Ezequiel Lavezzi in his place, but Rodrigo Palacio could also see time playing as well. Jose Basanta will also get some time on the pitch, making his first start of the tournament.

Lionel Messi will once again be leading the attack for Argentina. The team has been living a dying offh is golden foot for the entire tournament. However, Switzerland proved that he can be beaten. The team limited his opportunities by adding two defensive midfielders around him. Belgium likely took notice. Messi needs scoring help if Argentina is going to move on. Angel di Maria is the favorite after scoring the game winner in the last round.

Belgium reaches this stage after a showdown with the United States in which they won in extra time. They cannot afford that kind of play against Argentina. Anthony Vanden Borre will be out for the game after breaking his ankle. Romelu Lukaku and Divock Origi will fight to replace him.Axel Witsel will be the x-factor in this match. He will be tasked with keeping the scoring attack in check as the defensive anchor. Kevin de Bruyne will lead the attack as Belgium has been relying heavily on their leading playmaker. He has kept the offense versatile enough to keep the team winning.

Belgium and Argentina have yet to play to their strengths. They have struggled to keep their attack consistent, relying on late-game magic to move in the World Cup. They cannot afford to have that happen on Saturday as the quarterfinal match will lead to a game against either the Netherlands or Costa Rica.
