The LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers are playing live on the MLS schedule on Friday night and the game starts at 11 pm from the StubHub Center in Carson as Los Angeles hosts the matchup against their fellow western conference team on July 4 to celebrate America and Independence Day and the game is on NBC Sports Network and on the NBCSports.com Live Extra stream.
The Galaxy and the Timbers are playing for the second time this year and this is a key matchup for the teams in the West and this comes as Los Angeles has not lost in the last five times out. The team won on the road 1-0 last week against San Jose and they are just two points from being in the playoffs in the standings and the Timbers are coming in after a 1-0 loss against Sporting Kansas City last week and that came after beating KC in the US Open Cup, which had been going on during the World Cup.
This is Week 17 of the season in the MLS and the two teams have played nine times all-time and Galaxy have four wins over that time, three of them at home and in the first game the two teams played in May and drew 1-1 after late goals from both teams. The Galaxy are undefeated in Carson against Portland and they have won three times and drew once last year and now both sides are looking to move into the second half of the schedule with some points. LA is right in the mix in the western conference and they have 20 points on the season, while the Timbers are right there as well with 20 points and they are right behind the Galaxy in the standings.
