The Wimbledon 2014 tournament results on Thursday saw Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal advance on the bracket into the third round and now those names are through along with Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic and play continues on Friday with the 3rd round and coverage will be on ESPN and the WatchESPN website at the All England Club.

Nadal won his match against Lukas Rosol in four sets in the second round after losing to him two years ago in that same round and he pushed him 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-4 after losing the first set. Nadal was powerful and determined as the match went deeper and he muscled out a second set tiebreaker and then took the final two sets. Nadal lost early last year and this season he won the French Open and had to jump right back into things on grass and now he is trying to make a deep run.

Williams had an easy day on the court and she comes in after losing early at the French and Nadal is back after winning his ninth French Open title and these two won the US Open last year. Venus Williams remained alive and there was an upset with Victoria Azarenka losing and Federer also advanced along with Stanislas Wawrinka and Milos Raonic, who can matchup with Nadal in his side of the draw.

Williams won over Chanelle Scheepers 6-1, 6-1 and she is looking very strong and her match took less than an hour and she has the chance to rest as she gets into the third round. Maria Sharapova comes in after winning the French Open and she is the fifth seed and has won here before about a decade ago and and she was among winners including Angelique Kerber and Eugenie Bouchard.

Nadal looked very strong in his match and he had over 20 aces in the match and he put aside Rosol after losing to him following his knee injury and this was a nice way to close the book on that upset. The match lasted for less than three hours and Nadal looks to be getting his footing on grass and he could go deep at this tournament, while Murray and Djokovic look to be on a collision course in the semis.
