According to the Washington Post, the Redskins are aggressively trying to shop Fred Davis before the 4 p.m. trade deadline on Tuesday. The tight end has been on the blocks for weeks now, but no team has emerged as a real candidate to sign him. If the Redskins are unable to find a taker, the likelihood is the veteran will be cut.

Davis has been working off one-year contract deals for sometime as he continues to battle through the injuries. In the offseason, the Redskins used their franchise tag after Davis tore his Achilles in 2012 and was making his way back. Working off a $1 million deal, Davis has been given the backseat to young players like Jordan Reed and Logan Paulsen. Not immune to the rumors swirling around him, Davis says he is a member of the Redskins until told otherwise.

"I mean, at the end of the day, man, to be honest with you, I don't really prefer that, I just want to be able to play," Davis said.  "That's what I prefer.  I prefer to be playing.  Like LaVar [Arrington] said, there's plays out there that I know that I can make, too, so I feel like with assets like that, I feel I want to help my team out in any kind of way.  I don't want to be released and I don't want to be cut.  I don't want any of that.  But like I said, right now I'm a Redskin, I'm playing, but if I don't get a chance to, and they feel there's a better opportunity for me somewhere else to play, and a team that needs me or something, needs my ability and I go out there and make plays, then that's what I need to do."

The veteran is stressing that if a trade happens, it is not because he requested one, it is because the team felt that was the right thing to do. In an interview with 106.7 the Fan in D.C., Davis said he originally thought he was in good standing with the team until the rumors started to swirl. Then he saw other tight ends getting more playing time and understood that his time in Washington could be over.

The best option for Davis could be Kansas City. The Chiefs originally showed interest in Tony Gonzalez after the Falcons season had a fork put in it. That deal was all-but denied by everyone involved. The Chiefs are undefeated and the addition of Davis could be the added depth they need to stay that way. If not, Davis will likely be cut from the roster before the deadline.
