According to Deadspin.com, Manley created the NBA's efficiency index and was a sports contributor in Kansas City. He left a detailed website called "Martin Manley: My Life and Death" where he calmly explains his actions and also writes about his life, his past, his friends and things that he did throughout his life as well as reasons why he did and did not commit suicide. He clearly thought all of this through and now is gone after committing suicide in front of the Overland Park police station

According to the Kansas City Star, place found him early in the morning in front of the Overland Park police station in Kansas and he uploaded a ton of information on his blog and personal website. Manley wrote about his suicide and to the people that will be affected by it and he also gave a GPS map about "treasure" that he buried, which included gold coins in a park, but police later said that there was no treasure. Police said that the statement was a hoax but that the suicide was real and he used to work for the Star for seven years before starting his own blog, Martin Manley's Sports in Review.
