Arsene Wenger has promised the fans Arsenal will remain active in the transfer market right until the closure of the window on September 2, but stopped short of guaranteeing new faces.

The Gunners have had a frustrating summer so far, bringing in just youngster Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer while the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham in particular have strengthened their squads considerably.

Several big names, as usual, have been linked with Arsenal in this summer's transfer window, but as of now, not one signing of note has been made although Wenger remains hopeful of completing a move for Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

A clutch of players who failed to make the grade have left, but Wenger has not been able to bring in anyone to compensate for the number of exits.

However, the Arsenal manager insisted the club are doing their best to sign new players and would continue to do so right until the end of the transfer window.

"We are active," he told Arsenal Player. "We are in a situation like Manchester United, like Chelsea, where everybody expects signings and at the moment not a lot has happened.

"There are 18 days to go, so that is a long time in the transfer market and we will be active.

"I cannot certify what the number (of players coming in will be) but we will be active until the end, that is for sure."

Wenger has so far been left frustrated, losing quite a few of his targets to other clubs, while the decision to drop interest in Gonzalo Higuain to concentrate on Luis Suarez now looks a little foolhardy with Liverpool refusing to budge.

Arsenal only have a few fit first team players in their squad at the moment and the fans are desperate to see not just big name players coming in but also bodies that will add to the squad and help the team compete for honors in what promises to be a long and winding season.
