It is hard to imagine how Colin Kaepernick can possibly improve off last season. After stepping into the starting role of quarterback in his second year in the NFL, he led the San Francisco 49ers to a trip to the Super Bowl. He looked every bit the part of a quarterback well on his way to being called elite. So what will 2013 bring for the new sensation? Running back Frank Gore thinks it can only get better for Kaepernick.

Kaepernick played just 13 games total last season including the playoffs. He threw for 1,814 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also rushing for 415 yards and five touchdowns. Not bad for a quarterback who started the season off as a backup. Gore thinks with Kaepernick's work ethic in the offseason, he will only improve in his third year.

"He could get a lot better," Gore said. "One thing I love about that young guy, he works. He works very hard. Even before he got the starting job he used to be the first one there and one of the last guys out. As long as he keeps learning, working from the coaches and just being him, he'll be fine."

Kaepernick was an instant upgrade to the 49ers' offense after replacing an injured Alex Smith. When Smith went down, Kaepernick stepped in and the team never looked back. He then played three strong postseason games, proving that it can only get better for San Francisco.

Kaepernick started work immediately in the offseason. The quarterback was seen down in Atlanta beginning training. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is concerned that his quarterback might be putting in too much work in the offseason. He told his quarterback not to bulk up too much in intense workouts.

"If you're just talking about weightlifting and upper-body strength, yes, I think there is a fear," Harbaugh said. "It's something we've talked about. 'I don't want you getting too jacked-up, Colin.' I want some speed, quickness, not just flexing."

Kaepernick has built up a reputation as a workout fanatic. He recently spoke about adding MusclePharm supplements to his daily routine as a way of getting energy and properly recovering from workouts. He is now an endorser for the brand.

All of the offseason training is sure to put Kaepernick back on top in the league. With a slew of upgrades to the team, the San Francisco 49ers will be in the hunt once again.
