NFC East Standings: Washington Redskins Take Control as Cowboys, Giants Lose

The Washington Redskins are atop of the NFC East after a successful Week 16 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. With the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants slipping, the Redskins are all alone in first place.

The Redskins are 9-6 and more importantly, have bettered their record against divisional opponents improving to 4-1 with their 27-20 victory on Sunday.

For the Giants and Cowboys, their playoff fate lies on other teams' hands.

The Cowboys lost a close one to the New Orleans Saints in a game that went to overtime and was decided by a fumble. Dallas was trailing big late in the game, but they mounted a rally that sent the game into overtime. However, Drew Brees and the Saints were able to recover a fumble deep in Cowboy territory to set up the winning field goal that put gave them the 34-31 win.

As for the Giants, well their game versus the Baltimore Ravens was never really close. They were stomped out 33-14. Their defense has given up 67 points in their last two games and, suddenly, the Giants are the complete opposite team from last season.

Though they were also 8-7 at this point last season, there was still a feeling that they could be a force. The 2012 Giants are scaring nobody.

Week 17 brings us the final regular season games and will feature NFC East rivals meeting up. The Cowboys travel to D.C. to face the Redskins as the Giants host the Eagles.

Based on effort and streaks, the Redskins are wrapping up the regular season in better fashion than both the Giants and Cowboys. If they get into the playoffs, they will be a dangerous team to play against.
