Seattle Mariners Trade Rumors: Angels' Kendrys Morales Acquired for Jason Vargas

The Los Angeles Angels made a move as they acquired the Seattle Mariners' Jason Vargas.

Earlier today, they were rumored to having interests in acquiring an inning-eating pitcher to add to their starting rotation. Vargas was their perfect man as he pitched 217.1 innings last season.

This guy is a little bit like Doug Fister, who was a former Mariner. Decent ERA, but his winning record is not too impressive. In 2012, Vargas finished with a 14-11 record. He is susceptible to giving up the long ball giving up a total of 35 in 2012.

Vargas, however, brings pitching depth to the Angels and more importantly, a left-handed hurler. The Angels' starting rotation featured a right-handed heavy set of Jered Weaver, Tommy Hanson, Joe Blanton. C.J. Wilson was the only non-right hander in that rotation. Now, Vargas can join a tailend of a now decent pitching rotation.

Is it the best in the majors? Definitely not, but Vargas' ability to throw innings and stay in the game will give the Angels' bullpen some relief and those guys have a strong bullpen with Ernesto Freiri, Ryan Madson and Sean Burnett.

Vargas was threw the 10th most innings in baseball and has posted consecutive 200-plus innings pitched with the Mariners.

As for the Mariners, they receive a power hitter who can hit anywhere between .270-.290. Morales can get on base and if healthy, will create problems amidst a young Mariners lineup that has a lot of hitting talent.

Both players are under control until 2014 before they hit the free agent market.
