Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Will DeMeco Ryans Be a Salary Cap Casualty?

Ryans was thought to become a cap casualty last season however it never matriculated.

Now that the Philadelphia Eagle have a new head coach they will re-evaluate all of their players starting with those on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles only have 9 free agents and $29 million in cap space so replacing Ryans should not be a problem. In 2015 Ryans recorded 49 combined tackles, 5 pass defenses, an interception, and a forced fumble.

Ryans is 31 and has seen his fair share of injuries in recent seasons however he is likely to catch on with a contender who needs a solid inside linebacker.  Ryans has a $4.5 million cap hit which the Eagles would either need to get down to a manageable level or just release him outright. Ryans has been with the Eagles since 2012 and has missed 10 games in that time frame.

The Eagles did a great job of picking up linebackers throughout the last couple of seasons which should lead to Ryans dismissal. With Kiko Alonso, Jordan Hicks, and Vinny Curry all looking like the future starters the writing seems to be on the wall for the veteran linebacker. Ryans should find some work as a backup in his final seasons in the NFL.
