New York Mets Rumors: David Wright to Reject 6-Year $100M Deal?

Ken Rosenthal, senior writer of FoxSports.com, says that David Wright will likely reject a six-year $100 million deal that would keep him in a New York Mets jersey through 2019.

Rosenthal also said the longer the Mets last without giving Wright the deal he seeks, the higher the chances somebody might fish him out of New York as the winter meetings set to begin on Monday.

What Does Wright Want?
Definitely more than a six-year deal. Wright is currently banking $16 million a year and the current deal the Mets offered gives him around the same kind of pay.

Wright, according to Rosenthal, is seeking a deal of at least seven years. He wants more than Ryan Zimmerman and Evan Longoria, who both received six year deals becoming franchise players for their respective clubs.

Does Wright Deserve It?
Two words for you, hell yeah. Both Zimmerman and Longoria are health risks.

Wright is consistent.

He has had only one season where he hasn't played at least 144 games. Longoria has only appeared in 150 games or more in two of his four full seasons and Zimmerman is a guarantee on the DL year after year.

Wright is a six-time All-Star and the man can hit for power, average, get on base and two-time gold glove award winniner, so you know he handles the leather as well.

He is a proven commodity with nine years of baseball under his belt.

The worst case scenario is the Mets trading Wright then having him possibly return to New York in another uniform and participating in the All-Star game.

That would not only be a slap in the face for the fans, but will prove to the organization that they failed to sign one of the best all around third basemen in the Majors.
