Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Rolando McClain Re-Signed Over Greg Hardy? Lance Dunbar, Robert Turbin Returns Unlikely for Darren McFadden

One of the biggest names set to hit the free agent market is Greg Hardy. The defensive star spent the season with the Dallas Cowboys after domestic violence charges left him suspended and unwanted. Owner Jerry Jones took a chance on Hardy despite the public outcry not to and even at one point endorsed a contract extension for him. However, that might not be a guarantee anymore.

It is clear the Cowboys are not ready to endorse a return of Hardy just yet. Head coach Jason Garrett told the Dallas Morning News that the defensive star did fine this season, but he was not ready to make a call about what the future held for him. Considering Garrett has openly endorsed the return of players in the past, this drew many red flags. To add to that, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports that many players do not want Hardy back on the team after growing sour on him late in the year. Hardy has been deemed high-maintenance while tardiness was a huge issue. That could play a large role in whether or not he returns considering his contract does not allow the Cowboys to use the franchise tag on him.

Dallas has a lot of free agency decisions to make this season. Rolando McClain is headed for the open market after putting up 97 tackles this season. The defensive star was suspended for the first four games, but still managed to make a big impact and show he has talent. Off-the-field poses problems for McClain, but if he agrees to a smaller contract he could return.

The running back position will see both Lance Dunbar and Robert Turbin hit the market. Dunbar could return on a one-year deal after breaking his leg but showing that he has the versatility to be a star. Turbin never gained much with the team. Darren McFadden will need someone backing him up. According to Dan Patrick of the Dan Patrick Show, Derrick Henry would be the perfect fit for the Cowboys to build for the future.

All eyes will stay on the backup quarterback position after Jones hinted that Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel have not been ruled out as options. Drafting at No.4, the Cowboys can go a number of directions with who they select in the first round. Tony Romo gave an endorsement for drafting a quarterback like Jared Goff or Paxton Lynch while finding a dynamic pass rusher to replace Hardy could be a more viable option for the team.
