Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Tim Tebow Cut After Matt Barkley Trade? QB Released, Mark Sanchez Backup For Sam Bradford

The Philadelphia Eagles have cut Tim Tebow and the team has also traded quarterback Matt Barkley and that means Mark Sanchez will be the backup for Sam Bradford. The team could consider bringing back Tebow later on after the season starts, but right now it's unclear if he has a future with the Eagles or anyone else in the NFL.

UPDATE: Tebow has been released, according to Adam Schefter at ESPN.com.

According to Pro Football Talk, Barkley was traded to the Cardinals after being shopped for most of the preseason and he was traded for a conditional draft pick. After the trade, Tebow was not confirmed to make the roster and clearly the team has made their decision. The team is not keeping three quarterbacks at this time and it likely is due to the fact that Sam Bradford looked very good in the preseason and in camp. Barkley and Tebow are gone after competing behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

Bradford has been looking very solid training camp this summer and he has solidified his position ahead of Mark Sanchez. Tim Tebow and Matt Barkley were competing for the third string quarterback position, but Barkley was traded and that left Tebow as an option for the 53-man roster. The Eagles decided that another player was more valuable to keep and now Tebow could be done in the NFL if the Eagles don't give him another chance. Tebow was 21-for-36 for 286 yards and 2 TDs with an interception along with 82 rushing yards and a TD in the preseason.

The Eagles first preseason game against the Colts saw the team win and it saw three quarterback play, none of them being Sam Bradford. According to Pro Football Talk, Bradford has not shown any signs of having issues with his surgically repaired knee so far in training camp. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles had DeMarco Murray, Kiko Alonso and Mychal Kendricks active in practice last week and they should be ready for the season.

Bradford did not get much work during the offseason for the Eagles, but he has been able to stay on field for the preseason and SB Nation reports that Bradford did rollouts and looked great. Bradford previously had not been pushed much in practice, but he was able to move to his right and roll out for a touchdown to Josh Huff and he also had a touchdown pass to Miles Austin. The Philly Inquirer's Jeff McLane reported last week that the Eagles feel "ecstatic" about how Bradford has looked.

The Eagles drafted Nelson Agholor this offseason and signed DeMarco Murray along with Ryan Mathews and that could make Kelly's offense even more explosive. Jordan Matthews is coming back after a strong rookie season and the Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News reports that Agholor likely will start ahead of Riley Cooper and Josh Huff. Last season Matthews had 67 catches for 872 yards and eight touchdowns for the Eagles.
